Sacred Journal Book Arts Workshop
"Synchronicity in Art and Spirit"
Saturday, May 12     9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Instructor: Radha Chandrashekaran
A simple painted, printed journal is transformed into a handsome and unique artist's book when we begin with deliberate manipulations then let Synchronicity take over.  We will begin by constructing our books, with calculated placement of circular openings, and then we will paint, collage, transfer, emboss and embellish with elements we provide, or additions you bring/select.  The philosophy: the first step of the creative process is to "commit" content to the surface, and then the remaining answers begin to reveal themselves.  Come see what interesting compositions arise when we rely on Synchronicity to inform our choices and direct our designs.  Circles and symbols play an integral role in our interactive art book that will focus on all celestial beings, particularly the sun and the moon.  These subjects unlock portals where one can explore dramatic shifts from light to dark, the subtle nuances between positive and negative, and the navigation of scale and repetition.  Therefore, a compelling part of our journey is the teaching of art making and visual journaling.  With many colorful Tibetan, Japanese and other papers to choose from, you will create an exquisite, one-of-a-kind book that will also serve to help you remember your spiritual journey.
Supplies provided but you are encouraged to bring some of the following materials to help personalize your book: a variety of your favorite papers; i.e. tissue paper, wallpaper, wrapping paper, old prints, as well as, buttons, thread, embellishments and most importantly "written words" or prayers that have meaning for you.
