Are you hooked on etching after taking Intro to Intaglio?
Want to learn more detailed techniques and how to re-work a plate?
This 5-week course is a mainly open studio class with a
series of demonstrations on advanced aquatint.
It will provide an in-depth look at how to create many layers
of dark and to scrape out highlights and smooth transitions
of value rather than making harsh edges created by stop-out.
If time permits, we may also to look at soft ground, dry point
and other forms of mark-making.
This will be a more self-guided class tailored
towards making the image you want
(although we will not get to multiple plates and color- so please keep ideas monochromatic!)
Students are asked to supply their own etching needles/scribers,
zincplates (11x17 max size and you may bring a plate
that’s already been started) and paper (Hahnemuhle Copperplate is recommended).
All are available for purchase at Tiger Lily.
Grounds, inks, tarletan and basic studio supplies will be provided.
Scrapers and burnishers are available for use in class
or to sign out for short periods of time. If you are starting a new plate,
you MUST have your image outline in soft pencil ready,
no later than the second class.
